If you live in the UAE, you likely carry an Emirates ID, a legal requirement for residents and citizens. Issued by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, this card does more than verify who you are. In fact, your Emirates ID stores up to 20 key details and can make day-to-day life easier in several ways.
First, several banks allow customers to withdraw money using their Emirates ID. Emirates NBD users can generate a code in the mobile app to withdraw cash at ATMs. Mashreq Bank customers can open accounts, pay bills, update personal information, and make deposits or withdrawals using only their Emirates ID. Similarly, Al Hilal Bank allows cash withdrawals and transfers at ATMs using the ID.
Second, you can pay for fuel at petrol stations using your Emirates ID. By downloading the ADNOC Wallet app and linking your ID, you can top up the account and insert your ID at the petrol station to pay. It also works for ADNOC Oasis convenience stores and car washes, making it a convenient payment option.
Third, your Emirates ID can serve as a health insurance card. If you forget your physical insurance card, simply showing your ID at medical clinics allows service providers to process your insurance and cover your visit. This ensures you never miss access to healthcare due to a forgotten card.
Fourth, Emirates IDs can be used at DXB airport’s e-gates. These smart gates use facial recognition and connect to immigration databases to identify travelers. To use them, you must register your Emirates ID with the ICP, swipe it at the gate, and look into the scanner. You should remove hats and glasses before passing through. This allows faster, automated entry for UAE residents, citizens, and visa-on-arrival guests.
Finally, your Emirates ID unlocks discounts across the UAE. Hotels, attractions, and other services offer reduced rates to residents. By simply showing your ID, you can access deals that save money on food, entertainment, and leisure activities. This perk adds a fun, practical dimension to holding an Emirates ID.
Overall, the Emirates ID is more than an identification card. It simplifies banking, lets you pay for fuel, serves as a health card, speeds up airport entry, and provides valuable discounts. By taking full advantage of these features, residents and citizens can save time, money, and stress in daily life.
